The Bengal Engineers Group & Centre was established in 1803 and relocated to its current site in Roorkee in 1853, marking a long-standing connection between BEG & Centre and the city. The Roorkee Half Marathon, co-organized by BEG & Centre and the Cantonment Board, Roorkee, aims to strengthen civil-military relations and raise awareness of the courage, sacrifice, and resilience demonstrated by the Armed Forces during the 1971 Indo-Pak war. Hosted by the Indian Army, this significant event offers a unique experience, bringing together runners from all over India to commemorate 'Vijay Diwas.'
The Roorkee Half Marathon celebrates the spirit of one of North India's oldest engineering cities. From the banks of the Solani river to the tree-lined avenues near IIT Roorkee, every kilometre tells a story.
Whether you're chasing a personal best in the 21.1K or running your very first race in the 5K, Roorkee welcomes you with open roads, loud cheers and an unforgettable finish-line festival.

Our Heritage
The proud history and heritage of Bengal Sappers dates back to 1803 when Capt T Wood raised the Bengal Pioneers at Cawnpore. The Corps was found to be immensely valuable in the conduct of operations and it was therefore decided to raise Sappers and Miners units with greater capabilities. Accordingly in 1819, a part of the Bengal Pioneers were framed into Corps of Bengal Sappers and Miners at Allahabad. The remainder of Corps of Pioneers was absorbed into this in 1833. In November 1853, the Headquarters moved to Roorkee, where it has remained ever since. The Designation changed to “1st Prince of Wales Own Sappers and Miners”, in 1906, and in 1919 to “1st King George’s Own Bengal Sappers and Miners”. In Mar 1923, it was renamed “King George’s Own Bengal Sappers and Miners”. Post-Independence, the group has been renamed as Bengal Engr Group.
